Lion’s Mane plug spawn - Samzwam
With the Lion’s Mane plug spawn from Samzwam you grow this special mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) on wood yourself. The plugs contain living mycelium that slowly colonises logs and stumps. How to use the Lion’s Mane plugs
- Choose fresh hardwood with a diameter of 10 - 45 cm and a length of 50 - 100 cm.
- Drill holes 8 - 9 mm wide and 3 - 4 cm deep, 10 - 15 cm apart in a diamond pattern.
- Hammer in the plugs until they are flush with the surface.
- Break off a piece of the supplied beeswax, melt it over a tea light and drip it over each hole.
- Place the log in a shady, moist spot, for example under shrubs or next to a fence.
After 9 to 18 months the first fruiting bodies appear. A well inoculated log can produce lion’s mane mushrooms for several years, usually in spring and autumn.
